The installation of your geothermal system can be financed by Manitoba Hydro's Earth Power Loans program.

You can borrow up to $20,000.00 over 5 years and pay off the loan at any time. Payments are conveniently made on your monthly Hydro bill. Currently, Manitoba Hydro's Earth Power Loan rate is 4.9%.

Geothermal heating & cooling systems draw upon the natural heat produced by the Earth to heat and cool your home or business.

Very little electricity is used by the heat pump itself. No fossilized fuels are used. Therefore, there are no emissions, which are know to contribute to The Greenhouse Effect and global warming.

Instructions:

1 - Insert the figure you estimate to be the cost of installing a geothermal system. Please see the Manitoba Hydro website for estimated costs. (Scroll down the page until you see the retrofit or new construction links)

2 - Insert the figure you estimate to be the cost of installing conventional heating/cooling. (ie: gas furnace, electric furnace, wood/electric, central air, etc)

3 - This is a precalculated figure based on (1) and (2).

4 - Insert the interest rate you would expect to earn on an investment.

5 - Insert the total energy cost for your home.

6 - Calculate the portion of your electric bill which applies to heating only. IE: exclude the cost of lighting, running appliances etc.)

7 - A pre-calculated figure. The result is what your annual energy bill will be with a geothermal system.
